| Evening
Whale Quest at Juneau, Alaska |
 |
 |
Enjoy
a magical evening cruise that features guaranteed humpback whale viewing
and the peaceful ambiance of Alaska's long twilight as you are treated to
a delicious variety of appetizers, desserts, and beverages. Following a
short motorcoach ride to scenic Auke Bay, you'll board a water-jet-powered
catamaran specially designed for wildlife viewing. Relax in the warm, comfortable,
spacious main cabin as you set out to explore Stephen's Passage--a pristine
marine wilderness surrounded by snow-capped peaks and glaciers. This area
is world-renowned as a favored summer feeding ground for humpback whales.
Once whales have been sighted, your skilled Captain will gently maneuver
the vessel to allow exceptional viewing and photographic opportunities.
You'll be amazed by the gracefulness of these ocean giants as they slowly
arc their massive tail flukes into the air. Be sure to bring a warm jacket
to wear on the topside observation deck; the whales are often close enough
to hear them breathe. If the whales form a cooperative feeding group, an
underwater hydrophone will be deployed so that you may even get to experience
their incredible "singing." The onboard naturalist will explain the behavior
and habitat of the humpback whale. A no-host bar will offer soda, beer,
wine, and mixed drink service. The operators of this tour guarantee you
will see a whale. If not, you will receive a $100 cash refund as you disembark
the vessel ($50 refund per child). But don't anticipate a refund; in the
past seven years, whales have been sighted on every tour! |

of Alaska will thrill and delight you on this unforgettable, multi-glacier
flightseeing tour. Floatplane flightseeing over five of the Juneau Icefield's
most stunning glaciers is truly awe-inspiring. Your adventure begins as
your aircraft departs from Juneau's waterfront, amid the remains of early
day gold mines. Fly past waterfalls and lush green rain forests en route
to five distinctly different and majestic glaciers of the 1,500-square-mile
Juneau Icefield. Soar over the deep crevasses and azure blue meltwater pools
of the Norris, Hole-in-the-Wall, East and West Twin Glaciers, plus the mighty
Taku. Of the 36 named glaciers of the Juneau Icefield, the Taku Glacier,
five miles wide at its base, is the only glacier not retreating; it is actually
advancing. The informative narration is fascinating. The views and photo
opportunities are terrific as everyone enjoys a window seat. Rain or shine,
bring plenty of film for your camera to capture the magical memories this
trip is sure to provide. |

| Mendenhall
Glacier Express & Alaska-Style Salmon Bake Combination at Juneau, Alaska |
|
| |
This tour combines
an excellent view of the Mendenhall Glacier with a delicious salmon bake
at Salmon Creek. Depart the pier by motorcoach, traveling through Juneau's
picturesque downtown on the way to the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Center.
Here, you will view the mighty Mendenhall Glacier, a moving river of ice
with rugged crevasses and a distinctive blue color that appears deceptively
close because of its immense size. Stroll the walkways to the Visitor Center
and take in one of the glaciology exhibits, an interpretive talk with a
Forest Service ranger or simply enjoy the panoramic view of the glacier.
After approximately one hour taking in the splendid view of the Mendenhall,
you'll board your motorcoach for your transfer to your next destination.
The Traditional Alaskan Salmon Bake at Salmon Creek will delight all of
your senses. Feast on alderwood-smoked salmon, chicken, and ribs, along
with rice, salads, corn bread and a selection of beverages. (Beer and wine
are available for an additional charge). You can toast marshmallows over
an open fire, enjoy the view of the Salmon Creek waterfall, and the many
other features of this great "outdoor restaurant." When you are ready to
return to your ship, step aboard one of the salmon bake's shuttle buses
for your transfer back to the waterfront. |

| Mendenhall
Glacier, Whale Watch & Wildlife Quest at Juneau, Alaska |
 |
 |
Experience
Alaska's premier attractions, glaciers and wildlife, from two very different
vantage points--by land and by sea! Take a narrated motorcoach tour to view
and photograph Alaska's most famous glacier, the Mendenhall. At the newly
renovated Visitor Center, you'll have the opportunity to visit with Forest
Service interpreters, and, through interactive exhibits, appreciate the
landscape-carving force of glacial ice. As time allows, stroll the glacier-view
path, or take a short walk to watch salmon spawning in a nearby stream.
Back aboard the motorcoach, you'll take a scenic route through the Mendenhall
Valley, and past Auke Lake, where a dramatic view of snow covered peaks
can often be seen reflecting off the lake's glass-calm surface. At Auke
Bay, you'll board a water-jet-powered catamaran specifically designed for
wildlife viewing. Relax in the warm, comfortable, spacious main cabin, surrounded
by large windows as your experienced captain guides you through the island-studded
waters of Stephen's Passage. Against the majestic backdrop of the Chilkat
Mountains and glaciers of the Juneau Icefield, the onboard naturalist will
explain the behavior and habitat of wildlife you may encounter, including
humpback and killer whales, Steller sea lions, Dall's porpoise, harbor seals,
bald eagles and Sitka blacktail deer. The operators of this tour guarantee
you will see a whale. If not, you'll receive a $100 cash refund ($50 refund
per child) as you disembark. But don't anticipate a refund; in the past
seven years, whales have been sighted on every tour! To fully experience
the sights and sounds of a close encounter with wildlife, be sure to bring
a warm, rainproof jacket to wear on the topside observation deck, and don't
forget your camera! The vessel is restroom equipped, and binoculars and
souvenir route maps are provided along with complimentary snacks and beverages. |

| Taku
Wilderness Lodge & Glacier Flight Adventure at Juneau, Alaska |
 |
 |
Fly in a nostalgic
floatplane over five breathtaking glaciers to an authentic wilderness
lodge for a king salmon feast. You'll see why the Taku Glacier Lodge is
frequently named the best tour in Alaska! A true Alaskan experience, your
adventure begins the moment you "take off" from the Juneau waterfront
near your ship's berth. Each guest enjoys a window seat to get an unrestricted
view of five magnificent glaciers of the Juneau Icefield, as well as deep
blue crevasses, snow-capped mountains, cascading waterfalls and lush forests.
The Taku River will be your "runway" as you come in for a landing at the
Historic Taku Lodge built in 1923. The lodge is located across the river
from the picturesque Hole-In-The-Wall Glacier. Shortly after your arrival,
the aroma of the alder-grilled salmon tells you the feast is about to
begin. As the fire crackles, you'll savor the Lodge-cooked feast of baked
beans, coleslaw, pioneer fruit compote, fresh herb biscuits and sourdough
bread to complement the grilled-to-perfection Alaska salmon. Hot Russian
tea, coffee, beer, wine or iced tea and lemonade chilled with actual glacier
ice and special-recipe ginger cookies complete the meal. While enjoying
your meal, your host will entertain you with stories of the early day
characters like Mary Joyce and her famous dog sled trip. The lodge's unique
interior is decorated with old dog sleds, hunting and trapping gear, furs
and skins. Often the aroma of salmon attracts a local black bear in search
of a tasty morsel. Bear often visit the barbecue pit area in search of
leftovers! Before your flight back to Juneau, stroll the trails of an
old growth forest or relax with a beverage and soak in the serenity of
a place scarcely touched by time. |

| The
"Pilot's Choice" Helicopter Adventure at Juneau, Alaska |
 |
 |
Soaring high above
the lush rain forest, incredibly deep valleys and awe-inspiring peaks,
you'll marvel at vistas seen by few! Your pilot will give you an eagle's-eye

of the most remote peaks and glaciers in the Juneau Icefield -- places
like Wonderland, Glacier King, the Mendenhall Towers, and Devil's Paw.
This itinerary is flexible; your pilot is free to create the best possible
flightseeing based on the weather and glacier conditions. For an up-close
opportunity to appreciate this ancient landscape, your pilot will land
in two different locations, where you will continue the tour on foot!
During these two landings, you will learn about the geological and environmental
processes at work creating moraines, crevasses, seracs, and the glaciers
themselves. The Pilot's Choice tour is a journey of discovery -- a once-in-a-lifetime
experience sure to provide enduring memories of Southeast Alaska's beautiful
wilderness. |
